Recreational Program

If you have any questions after reading about our Rec Program below, please contact the grade appropriate Rec Director: Mike Ohl - mikeohl@hotmail.com

Grades 3 - 8: The Rec program is a competitive program designed for players of all experience levels who would like to continue to develop their skills, but in a less intensive environment than Select Basketball. For players at the 3rd grade level, our program offers an introduction to a focused, competitive experience. All players that register for the Rec program by the deadline will be placed on a team. The WBA's teams play in the Recreational TSWW inter-league against other Wilsonville teams and teams from West Linn, Tualatin and Sherwood.

Registration: Registration for Rec basketball will open October 1st, 2018. The deadline for registrations is October 26th, the day before our Skills Assessment Day. Online registration is required this year so we ask that you complete your registration prior to October 27th. Your child will not be allowed to enter the gym on Skills Assessment Day without being registered. If accessing the internet is not possible for you, we will have a computer onsite, but we will only take credit cards that day - no checks or cash - and an additional late fee of $15 will apply.

Skills Assessment Day: All players are required to attend our Skills Assessment Day in the Wood Middle School gym on Saturday, October 27th. (NOTE: If your child has a conflict that day due to a prior sports commitment, please contact the appropriate Rec Director for a waiver.) This is not a tryout. Every child who properly registers will be placed on a team.

The purpose of this session is to assess each player's skill level by participating in simple group drills, in order to help us make evenly-balanced teams. Requests to form specific teams or to be assigned with other specific players or coaches will not be honored. We guarantee this will be a fun, no-pressure session. The skills assessments will not be shown to anyone other than those selecting the teams. Parents are welcome to stay and watch the evaluations. Here are the tentative times when your player(s) should show up on Saturday, October 27th::

  • 4th grade: 8:30 - 9:45 am
  • 5th grade: 9:45 - 11:00 am
  • 6th grade: 11:00 - 12:15 pm
  • 7th/8th grades: 12:15 - 1:30 pm
  • 3rd grade: 1:30 - 2:45 pm

Please arrive at least 15 minutes early so you can check in and be sized for team uniforms. Please have your child bring his or her basketball, if they have one. If you have not registered online by October 26th, please come 30 minutes early. We will have a few computers for individuals to use who have not yet registered.

Coaches: Our Rec basketball teams are coached entirely by parent volunteers from each team. If you are interested in helping us as a coach, registering is the first step. Please fill out the Coaches Registration Form on the Registration page by choosing volunteer - coach on the registration form. If you have indicated your interest in coaching through our online registration, you will be contacted by email by our Rec Program Director, Mike Ohl.

Fees: The fee is $120 if paid with cash, check, or credit card. The fee must be paid by Friday, October 26th or the player will not be placed on a team. The fee covers all practices and Rec games and a uniform. Partial scholarship assistance is available, and can be discussed with the appropriate Rec Director prior to Skills Assessment Day.

Team Assignments: Teams will be formed after the Skills Assessment Day and posted publicly on our website on October 30th. You will also receive an e-mail regarding which team your child has been placed on. Your coach will be contacting you with more specific information about practices and games as we get closer to the beginning of the season. General practice and game info will also be sent from your child's coach. If a coach has not already volunteered for your team when the team is formed, parents from the created team will be asked to volunteer to create a coaching staff.

November 26th - Team practices start this week.

January 12th - Team picture day
